What Would The Donald Do……Trump For President?

After flirting with runs for the Presidency twice before, Donald Trump seems once again to be throwing his hat in the ring. Does he really mean it this time?   Billionaire Donald Trump, the New York-based real estate tycoon and dealmaker, shows every indication that he’d like to run for president as a Republican in 2012. He is apparently exploring his options and will decide on a course of action by June.

Trump, endearingly referred to as “The Donald” has been on the scene for several decades as the ultra rich and successful American stereotype (the General Bullmoose of our time) everyone either loves or hates. His image, which I believe is carefully cultivated for maximum PR exposure, makes people in all walks of life cringe at his wealth, ostentatious behavior, lack of class, and self promotion.

I for one like The Donald, because he speaks his mind and lets it all hang out.  It helps that he’s super wealthy and threatens to sue at the drop of a hat should anyone dare take him on. My only beef with the Trumps dates back many years when I once parked illegally at the entrance of one of the buildings in Trump Village. I ran inside to drop something off at a friend’s apartment. Upon my return twenty minutes, later, I found my car windows covered with tape strips saying “you are parked illegally”. It took me weeks to strip the tape off my windows using razor blades and solvent. Towing would have been vastly preferable to this.

That however,  was Fred Trump, The Donald’s father and well known real estate developer in NYC who started the entire Trump Empire. Getting back to our prospective presidential candidate I thought it might be interesting to contemplate how The Donald would handle the presidency based on his public statements and history to date. I’d like to start a series called “What Would The Donald Do?” which will solicit comments from my readers as to what President Trump would do in today’s political climate. If I get enough comments I will put up new posts and keep this going.

So to get this started….here goes:

I think the dream ticket would be Trump-Palin as both share the ability to see Russia with the naked eye from their homes. She from her house in Alaska and he from the top of the Trump Tower in New York (or Chicago).

I can’t wait to see the campaign jet with the huge and massively overdone Trump Logo. If it hits a chord with the American people we might even see the logo put on Air Force One.

Between the election victory and Inauguration Day, be prepared to see several versions of “The Apprentice’ with brand extensions to “ Political Apprentice” as well as the “Foreign Affairs Apprentice”.  The winners of course would staff the top posts in his administration. His pool of candidates would come from the business community or as he recently called them the “killers on wall street”. The Donald believes that U.S. diplomats should be “business leaders” and I have to agree that it would be a vast improvement over the practice of assigning diplomatic posts to large campaign contributors.

Once in the White House, I believe The Donald would immediately propose to replace the structure with a 100 story high rise. The first twenty floors would be the Presidential living quarters and offices with the top eighty being sold as condominiums. Imagine the tenants and the fees.

As to the economy, I believe he would appoint Bernie Madoff as special advisor so that our entire economy could be turned into a giant Ponzi scheme. You might say it already is a Ponzi scheme, however the current investors are the American people and The Donald would turn that around so that: the rest of the world was paying in and we were cashing out.

As to foreign policy, The Donald has been quite outspoken on this lately. He would impose a 25% tariff on all goods coming from China as he regards the Chinese as our greatest enemy. He would also do some major arm twisting on OPEC with the blunt words, “Fellas you better not do it”.

On Libya, The Donald proudly proclaimed that he knows how to deal with people like Gaddafi. On FOX News Monday he recently said: “I dealt with Gaddafi. I rented him a piece of land. He paid me more for one night than the land was worth for two years, and then I didn’t let him use the land.” “That’s what we should be doing. I don’t want to use the word ‘screwed’, but I screwed him,” .

One scenario I love to think about is The Donald dealing with our corpulent little friend in Venezuela, Hugo Chavez. To visualize how it might go I used The Donald’s rant against Rosie O’Donnell and substituted Hugo Chavez in her place: “You can’t make false statements, Hugo will rue the words he said. I’ll most likely sue him for making those false statements – and it’ll be fun. Hugo’s a loser. A real loser. I look forward to taking lots of money from my nice fat little Hugo.”

But the one reason I would even consider voting for him would be to watch him during his victory speech and hear him utter those famous words: “Barack You’re Fired!”

And that’s the way it is here: “a little left of right”
